Claire Devine
Family Consultant, Roskilly & Mills
I help individuals make sense of complex and emotionally charged family issues, offering clear, empathetic advice at what is often one of the most difficult times in their lives. Whether dealing with divorce, separation, or planning for the future, I work alongside my clients to protect what matters most – their family, finances, and peace of mind.
With over 20 years’ experience as a family lawyer – including at Charles Russell Speechlys before becoming a consultant in 2023 – I offer pragmatic and strategic support across all aspects of family law, including:
• Financial arrangements on divorce – specialising in high-value and complex cases, through both court proceedings and out-of-court resolutions
• Arrangements for children – advising both married and unmarried parents, including where relocation is proposed
• Relationship planning – drafting and advising on:
• Pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements
• Cohabitation agreements
I am a strong advocate for resolving matters outside the court process where appropriate, guiding clients through alternative dispute resolution options such as mediation, private FDRs, and arbitration. These approaches are often quicker, less adversarial, and more cost-effective than court, though I am equally experienced and confident in litigation when needed. I am robust in negotiations and proceedings when the situation requires that approach.
My clients describe me as down-to-earth, empathetic, and clear. I believe family law should be accessible, not intimidating. I take pride in helping people understand their options, feel supported throughout the process, and make informed decisions about their future
A little more about Claire
I’m a family solicitor based in rural Oxfordshire, with professional roots in Berkshire (where I trained and qualified), Surrey (at Charles Russell Speechlys), and Bristol, where I’ve developed my practice in recent years.
I enjoy working with clients across a broad geographical area and, thanks to modern technology, I’m able to offer support wherever they are based. Outside of work, life is full with three energetic children and two lively dogs, and we spend much of our time outdoors enjoying the countryside.
As a parent to neurodiverse children, I bring a personal understanding of the complexities and sensitivities many families face. This lived experience has shaped not only how I parent, but how I practise — with empathy, clarity, and a deep commitment to listening. I recognise that every family is different, and my focus is always on what matters most to you, helping you navigate the process and reach the right outcome for your unique circumstances.
